The Oracy Record

Our mission

Our mission.

As technology and the power of AI grow, the written word carries less unique value, while the ability to communicate clearly, and defend a position critically, becomes ever more important. These are the skills debate fosters, and we believe oracy will become one of the most valuable currencies a person can hold. Our mission is to make that skill more accessible: by sharpening the tool itself, automating it, and making it more effective.

When students argue a position, respond under pressure, and engage with opposing views, they develop far more than subject knowledge. They build communication, critical thinking, and the ability to engage with content more deeply.

For too long, structured debate has been reserved for schools with the time, funding, and expertise to run it well, leaving most students without control over the most significant skill of the future. MyOracy is building the infrastructure to change that: making high-quality debate accessible to every student, everywhere, so every student can own their oracy, and call it MyOracy.

The people behind it

Meet the founders.

Maddox

Maddox

Co-Founder · CEO

Hey, I'm Maddox, co-founder and CEO of MyOracy.

Debate has been central to both my academic and personal life, stemming from my studies in law alongside a wider interest in politics and economics. It helped me develop skills that once strained my confidence, from public speaking to critical reasoning in discussion.

Looking back, I began my education at a school where debate was often seen as bland, and opportunities to take part in events were hard to come by. After moving schools, I realised how much access to debate depends on location and background, leaving many students without the chance to build the confidence and skills it can foster.

That is what drew me to MyOracy. I see it as a way to make debating more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for students everywhere. My mission is to help build an organic culture of oracy across schools, universities, and beyond, giving more young people the confidence to think critically, argue clearly, and communicate effectively.

Yashar

Yashar

Co-Founder · CTO

Hey, I'm Yashar. Programming nerd, debater, co-founder and CTO of MyOracy.

My dad's an economist who's been actively involved in politics for as long as I can remember, so growing up, debate wasn't just a hobby, it was basically dinner table conversation. That's probably where my love for it started. I've always found debating a great way to have real conversations and build genuinely meaningful relationships with people. So when the idea of MyOracy was first born, I was in before we even finished explaining the vision, especially once I heard about the technical side, which has been my thing since grade 7.

Together with Maddox, we've spent the last while figuring out how to actually run a company while still doing homework, all with one goal: getting debating to any student, anytime, anywhere. MyOracy has grown into something so much bigger than the side project I thought it'd be, and that's all thanks to my incredible colleague, Maddox (and a little help from me :))
